Learning from our Class Review Process

Teacher Teams at Errington engage in a class review process in early fall of each year.  Through this process we identify strengths and needs of each class across the school.  Noteworthy this year was the number of students that staff talked about as demonstrating needs for support in areas of Social Emotional Learning and/or Counselling.

Intermediate : 20% (37/196 children in 7 Divisions)

Primary : 24% (30/126 children in 6 Divisions)

Personal and Social development were very prominent areas of need in all classrooms.  Social Thinking, Friendship Development, Epathy Development and anxiety toward social activities were the common themes expressed by teachers.

We intend to do some scanning of students in the coming weeks to see how their feelings at school connect with the observations and experience of their teachers.  We are continuing to pay close attention to student's emergent needs and addressing those broadly and specifically while making plans for longer term interventions.

The feeling of being connected to classmates and teachers in incredibly important.  We want to make sure that students at Errington have the personal skills and resources and opportunities to support this.
