Update from the Richmond Board of Education: April 2026
The Richmond Board of Education would like to welcome staff, students and families back from spring break. As we begin the final term of the school year, the board is sharing a few important updates with the community.
RDPA Elections - May 5, 2026
The Richmond District Parents Association (RDPA) is a district-wide parent organization that brings together representatives from each school’s parent advisory council (PAC).
Voting membership of the association may be granted upon application to the association and consists of one delegate elected or appointed by each individual school PAC from the Richmond School District No. 38, with one vote per PAC.
The RDPA holds an annual general meeting each spring, where elections take place for positions on the RDPA executive. This year’s AGM will be held on Tuesday, May 5, 2026 at 7:00 p.m. in person in the Boardroom at the School Board Office, 7811 Granville Avenue, Richmond. Parents interested in becoming involved are encouraged to connect with their school PAC to learn more about the upcoming election process.
For more information, including full details on membership and governance, please refer to the RDPA constitution.
Budget Update
The district is currently in the process of developing the 2026/27 Annual Budget, with a focus on aligning resources to the board’s strategic priorities and supporting student learning. The process is guided by principles of transparency, inclusion, and long-term financial sustainability.
As required under the School Act, the board must adopt a balanced budget each year and submit it to the Ministry of Education and Child Care.
Public engagement remains an important part of the process. The Budget Advisory Working Group has been meeting from January through April, and the board continues to invite feedback through meetings and written submissions.
Community members are encouraged to share input by emailing sd38budgetfeedback@sd38.bc.ca. Final approval of the budget is anticipated by May 20, 2026.
The annual budget prioritizes classroom learning while supporting long-term financial sustainability, focusing on meeting student needs while using resources effectively in light of changing student enrolment and the broader fiscal landscape.
February 24 Trustee Meeting with PACs
On February 24, trustees met with PAC chairs and vice-chairs from across the district to hear questions, feedback and perspectives on a range of topics related to district programs and operations.
The board values this opportunity to hear directly from parent leaders and support ongoing dialogue between families and the district.
