Dear Errington Eagle Families,

I was a great week as we welcomed everyone back to school for the 3rd and final term of the year.  It is always a very active time at school through April, May and June full of learning and plenty of fun.  When you are invited to join us, I am hopeful that we will seemany families in and around the school.

You will have received information through email with regard to the Solar Eclipse that we will experience on Monday.  Out of an abundance of caution classes will be remaining in the school during the 10:40a to 12:20p time period.  In a few specific situations, students who are conducting science experiments under the careful supervision of their teachers, may be outside for brief periods.  Please remind your children about the importance of not looking directly at the sun at all times, but specifically during the eclipse event.  If the weather is cloudy and/or raining and the risks have been mitigated, we will continue with regular outside activities.

Now that the weather is improving I am noticing many families are spending afterschool time on the playground.  This is a wonderful way to connect with nature and with other families in our school community and I would encourage everyone to stay with your children when you can.  That said, if you are staying, please be reminded that we cannot leave vehicles in the lane way beyond the school traffic circle.  Our neighbours need the access to their driveways and garage spaces.  Please wait and move your car into an open parking space within the School Traffic Circle, prior to taking your child to the playground.  Thank you for helping us maintain the positive relationship we have with our neighbours!

In this third term of the school year, we would like to make a concerted effort to have all children arriving at school prior to the bell and ready to enter the school with their classmates on time.  In the event that you are late to arrive, students will be encouraged to sign in and leave their adult in the lobby area and walk to class on their own.  By this time of year, I believe that our students are ready for the independence to walk to class.  This will also serve to reduce the extra “traffic” in our busy hallways!  Thank you!

April marks “Sikh Heritage Month” and we have some information in the lobby to share when you have time.  It is also important to note the our Muslim families, who have been fasting each day for the previous month, will soon be celebrating Eid and we wish them well!

Gardening, Track and Field, Earth Day, Sports Day and Grade 7 Farewell are just a few of the many events we have to look forward to in the next three months.  It is going to be an amazing third term!

Be safe, be active and get outside!

Regards,

Andrew Ferguson (he/him/his)
